Maiden and Mother: Prayers, Hymns, Devotions, and Songs to the Beloved Virgin Mary throughout the Year

Front Cover
A&C Black, 2001 M01 6 - 224 pages
In this inspiring collection of hymns, prayers, songs and poems in honour of the Virgin Mary, Margaret Miles has drawn together many of the finest Christian compositions in prose and verse from all centuries, from liturgical and non-liturgical sources.

Many of the pieces in this book have been devoted to the Mother of God over the centuries. Here, uniquely, they are brought together in their original language (mainly Latin) or in the vernacular.

The material is arranged in sections following the Church's year, and brief historical introductions cover each of the feasts of Mary. The book therefore fills a significant gap in devotional literature.

With interest in Mary growing up in all mainstream Christian churches, this delightful collection should appeal to readers of all denominations.
