German Kinship Terms, 750-1500: Documentation and Analysis

The core of the work is a detailed diachronic-diatropic documentation, analysis, and synopsis of the semantic development of eight selected kinship lexemes throughout the period. Other sections present a critical, text-centered examination of the High Middle Ages kinship system as portrayed by Wolfram von Eschenbach (fl. late 13th century), and an inventory and comparative analysis of the German equivalents for Latin kin terms in Old and Middle High German glosses and in the vocabularies of the late middle ages.
