An Apology for Poetry (Illustrated)
CreateSpace Independent Publishing Platform, 2016 M08 23 - 136 pages
This apology is an adaptation of modern Continental concepts of literature to English conditions in the form of a legal speech for the defense. "Poesy" (imaginative writing) engages the reader not only in inventiveness, but also in moral education. Although he never mentions "poesy," in his correspondence, it is clear that for him it was secondary to religion and statecraft.
