Covering Inner Asia - taken in a maximalist sense to cover the entire Eurasiatic Steppe plus adjoining areas like Siberia and Tibet - before Genghis Khan, this is a somewhat disparate collection of chapters, by different authors, of different quality, and with different emphases. There's some gaps in coverage, and the nominal end date of ca 1200 is sometimes observed in the breach.

While a few chapters disappointed, overall I'm pretty happy with it.
